Call for Paper Proposal – Pre-Conference

On behalf of the STC India Chapter, I am pleased to announce the call for paper proposals for the pre-conference sessions (as part of the 18th STC India Annual Conference) to be held in Hyderabad, India on 8/12. Topics related to technical communication will be considered as relevant by the content committee.

The pre-conference can either be:

  • A full-day workshop topic (Duration: 6 hours)

     or

  • A half-day workshop (Duration: 3 hours)

This includes hands-on and Q&A sessions. Please note that a session can have a maximum of two presenters only.

Send your abstract (250-300 words) in the template provided. Complete the registration form and upload your proposals directly on to the web site. Proposals are accepted in PDF and Word formats only.

The paper proposals will be selected by a team of judges and their decision will be final and binding. Queries related to the selection of the paper proposals will not be entertained. Once the paper proposals are selected, the program committee will get in touch with the respective speakers to take the discussion forward.

We are yet to open the registrations for the conference, but if you do have any queries on the registration process, please feel free to write to the STC-India Treasurer, P. Kiranmayee. Please note that the participation fee for the pre-conference will be charged separately.

The last date for submitting the pre-conference paper proposals is 8/23. Requests for extensions will not be accepted, so please make sure that you plan ahead of time and endeavor to meet the stated timeline. The content selection committee will meet in late August/early September to finalize session selections and identify the additional speaker and topic needs. The speakers will be notified of their selection to speak at the conference, latest by 9/5.

Call for Paper Proposal – Main Conference

On behalf of the STC India Chapter, I am pleased to announce the call for paper proposals for the 18th STC India Annual Conference to be held in Hyderabad, India on 12/9 and 12/10.

The conference aims at fostering industry-leading technical communication by stimulating information exchange, cultivating research, and serving as the primary source of education for professional technical communicators. The work that all of us do continues to be an important factor in driving the community’s education, and we invite you to share your knowledge and learning with the conference attendees.

Rules and Guidelines

  • The theme for this year’s annual conference is “Sailing in Harmony.” All sessions are expected to discuss ideas, thoughts, trends, and techniques that equip technical communication professionals to be successful in their jobs and be prepared for changes that are an eventuality.
  • All paper proposals need to be relevant to technical communication and you should be able to categorize them under one of the following tracks:
    • Leadership and Management (example: Managing Career Progression, Setting and Managing Expectations – Upward and Downward, Planning and Implementing Documentation Strategies in Global Organizations, and so on )
    • Writing and Communication (example: API Documentation – REST APIs and Best Practices, Doing solid task analysis and writing for the user, Writing in an Agile environment, Working collaboratively with your technical editors and documentation architects, and so on)
    • Tools and Emerging Technology (example: Gamifying User Assistance, Augmented Reality, Responsive Design, and so on)
  • The duration of each session will be 45 minutes. This includes the Q&A time.
  • Download the template for the abstract.
  • Complete the abstract (250 to 300 words) in the template provided. While deciding and before submitting your paper proposals, please take the following into consideration:
    • Is the topic timely and of interest to the conference attendees?
    • Is the topic important enough for the technical communication industry?
    • Does the abstract grab the reviewer’s/judge’s attention and make an immediate case for reading more about the session?
    • Does the session proposal demonstrate a solid direction and purpose for the session?
    • Is the proposal clear and concise, well thought-out, and well-written?
  • Complete the registration form and upload your proposals directly on to the web site. Proposals are accepted in PDF and Word formats only.
  • You are invited to submit one or more session proposals either individually or as a team for the main conference days. Please note that a session can have a maximum of two presenters only.
  • Conference speakers are exempt from paying the conference registration fees. However, for a paper proposal that has more than one speaker, only one of the speakers will be exempt from paying the conference registration fees. Once you receive a notification that your paper proposal has been selected, please decide and let us know who you elect to be the individual who should not be charged the conference registration fees.
  • The paper proposals will be selected by a team of judges and their decision will be final and binding. Queries related to the selection of the paper proposals will not be entertained.
  • Once the paper proposals are selected, the program committee will get in touch with the respective speakers to take the discussion forward.
