Guidelines for Quiz:

  1. We plan to conduct a quiz competition each month through November 2016. That would be a total of five quizzes till November 2016.
  2. Your participation in all of the five quizzes is necessary to be eligible to win the prize.
  3. This competition is open to individual participants only. Group entries are not allowed.
  4. The winners will be announced at the 18th STC India Annual Conference.

STC India is pleased to announce the competition for illustrations based on this year’s conference theme. The conference theme is “Sailing in Harmony.” This is a call for illustrations that reinforce the theme; you may want to consider the following when creating the illustration:

  • Blending technology and writing
  • Evolution of technical writing with technology trends
  • Tools assisting the adoption and adaption to newer technology

Rules for submission:

  • The submitted entries should be original and not published earlier in any form or version.
  • The submitted entries must conform to the following specifications: 20 × 20 cm or 8 × 8 inches.
  • The file type format must be high-resolution (300 dpi) JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group).
  • You must add a brief explanation (100 - 200 words) of how your illustration addresses the conference theme.
  • You can use any medium or graphic tool to create the illustration, but the final format must conform to the standard specified in one of the aforementioned bullet point.
  • The contributions can be individual or as a group. The group size is restricted to a maximum of three individuals.
  • Fill in the competition registration form.  
  • Send your entries along with the registration form to competitions@stc-india.org with the subject line as “Competition 3-Call for Illustrations” latest by September 05, 2016.

Submissions will be reviewed and judged by a panel of judges; the decision will be final. All the submitted entries will be the property of STC India Chapter. The winner and runner-up will be declared on the conference website and the awards will be presented at the STC India Annual Conference. The illustrations will also be displayed during the STC India Annual Conference.

Technical Documentation Competition – Closed

India Chapter STC is pleased to announce the Technical Documentation competition. The Technical Documentation competition offers an excellent way for you and your teams to get recognition for various forms of technical communication. The competition is aligned in format and judging with the STC Summit Awards.

This year, the deadline is October 28 2016 for local chapters for receiving entries. The top award winners (Distinguished award and Excellence award) of the India Chapter STC in each category are eligible to compete in the STC International Summit Awards competitions, 2017. Judges evaluate entries against a checklist of criteria to decide the winners and type of award. You may send the winning entries using the competition form to the Summit Awards committee early in 2017 (date to be published).

Who is eligible?

You don’t have to be a member of STC to enter this competition; the competition is open to everyone (student and professional) who produces technical documentation such as technical manuals, training material, content for the web, content for other devices. The entry can be submitted as a team (maximum 3 people), or as an individual or on behalf of a colleague. Ensure that the online URLs, web pages etc remain the same till the International Summit awards program is completed.

What are the categories?

There are four categories:

  • Instructional Materials train users on skills and knowledge using solutions like eLearning, mobile learning, workbooks, wikis, social media, facilitator guides, instructional animations, videos, student guides, tutorials, and webinars.
  • User Support Materials provide information for the user in performing specific tasks for independent use including performance support, online help, mobile help, job aids, quick start or reference guides, reference documents, user guides, and websites.
  • Promotional Materials market or promote a product, company, individual, or event that aim to persuade the audience to some action, using integrated figures and text. Examples may include websites, brochures, catalogs, fliers, and posters.
  • Informational Materials inform the user without a specific call to action. Examples may include annual reports, articles, books, error messages, magazines, newsletters, periodicals, posters, research papers, and websites.
Type of Awards

India Chapter STC competition entries can be awarded the following awards in the order of importance. Each entry is judged against criteria that measure the degree of technical content, achievement of purpose and technical execution whether online or in printed deliverable. All entries should have been published before September 1, 2016, and should be 24 months old. It should not be published in any form earlier.

  1. Best of Show - One Best of Show award can be given by the judges every year. (India Chapter STC will sponsor Best of Show's entry into the STC International Summit Competition.)
  2. Distinguished Technical Communication - Clearly superior in all areas. The entry contains no major flaws and few, if any, minor flaws. It applies the principles of technical communication in an outstanding way, particularly in the way that it anticipates and fulfills the needs of its audience.
  3. Excellence - Consistently meets high standards in all areas. The entry might contain a single major flaw or a few minor flaws. The entry clearly (if slightly imperfectly) demonstrates an exceptional understanding of technical communication principles.
  4. Merit - Consistently meets high standards in most areas. The entry might contain a small number of major or minor flaws, but it still applies technical communication principles in a highly proficient manner.
When is the deadline for entry submission? 

All entries should arrive by the Deadline : 6:00 pm IST on Friday, October 28, 2016.
